Goal Planning 101
If you want something in life you are going to have to put in the work. You are going to have to make a plan and stick to it. Planning or setting goals is a huge step in the right direction of manifesting a truly unique and fulfilling life.
My husband and I talk often about our goals and I am always to one to say “how are we going to achieve this?”. After 16 years together he still gives me the deer in headlights look. Every. Single. Time.
Saying or writing a goal down is a great first step but if you don’t create an action plan of how you will get from your starting point to the endpoint of goal achievement, well, it’s just never going to happen.
For example, If your goal is to lose 12 pounds in the next three months but you don’t create a plan of how to actually lose the weight then it’s not magically going to fall off. If you say “I’m going to eat healthier and exercise more” that’s great but can you measure that? How will you be able to tell if your actions are working? What do you actually mean by “eat healthier” or how much exercise do you mean when you say “more”?
Setting a goal AND planning the action steps to make it happen is how success is achieved. Using the example above, an actionable step would look more like “I will eat only home-cooked, unprocessed foods for the next three months, and I will do weight lifting and running 5 days a week”.
Does Goal Setting Really Work?
Goal setting absolutely works when you set realistic goals and attach actionable sets to them. Remember that setting and achieving goals does take work. It takes patience, perseverance, and habit changes. It takes willpower and practice.
How can a Planner Help with Achieving Goals?
Planners are my go-to when setting goals. Physically writing your goals on paper has statistically positive results when it comes to results.
Planners allow you to set your goals and actually plan, down to the hour if you want, exactly how you plan on achieving them.
Not all planners are geared towards goal setting and achievement however so choosing the right one is key.
What is the Best Planner for Goal Setting and Achievement?
I love planners. Maybe too much, but YOLO!
I was gifted a Simply Yours Day Planner by my friend Shea the mastermind behind the brand Planned and Proper. The Simply Yours Day Planner I can assure you is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to setting and achieving goals.
Customizable, affordable and being gorgeous make the Planned and Proper planners my go-to choice for goal setting planners.
What is Planned and Proper?
Before we jump right into what the Simply Yours Planner has to offer I want to give you a little context into how Shea designed this extremely effective Goal Crushing enterprise of planners and accessories.
In her own words see how Shea describes the purpose of Planned and Proper:
Who is Shea Bailey?
Shea is a mom, entrepreneur, and wife who has spent 16 years as an occupational therapist helping “countless individuals and families set and achieve their long and short-term goals.”
She took these years of experience and a desire for entrepreneurship and created the brand Planned and Proper and brought to market the Simply Yours Planners.
Her goal is to help the modern woman, with her many titles, to-dos, and obligations to organize and facilitate success. Her belief is that “anyone can create a balanced, well-planned life. With discipline, organization, wellness, and gratitude, you can change your life and, in turn, change the world.”
Talk about motivation! Let’s jump in!
Planned and Proper Planner Options
The Simply You Day Planner comes in three dated options, 12 months, 18 months, or undated. You can choose your start date for the 12 and 18-month options (which is awesome if you need a planner in a month other than January or August which is the typical start dates for most planners)
All Planners include :
- Dimensions: 7 x 9
- Ultra-smooth 70lb paper that gives a luxurious feel and minimizes bleed-through
- 120 plus double-sided pages for weekly layouts
- Durable hardcover
- Gold Metal coil binding
- 1 tab for goal section of the planner
- 2-page undated monthly calendar spread
- Classic, modern cover designs to choose from
- Extra journal pages
- Space for vacation planning
- Space for monthly expenses
- Goal setting worksheets
- Year-in-review pages
One of the best parts about the Simply Yours Day Planner is the ability to customize your spread. Your options are Horizontal, Vertical, and Daily.
Because I am a Stay at Home Mom and I don’t have regular appointments I went with the Horizontal Layout. The Daily layout would be perfect for working moms, or moms whose families are always on the move.
The best feature in my option is the goal planning pages. In their own section and the front of the planner are full pages for long-term and short-term goals plus space for creating action plans in every area of your life.
- Body and Wellness
- Social and Friendships
- Career and Business
- Home and Household
- Spiritual, Faith and Intuition
- Creativity, Education and Interests
At the end of each month, there is also a full page of goal planning in each of the above categories for you to review and determine your next actions.
If you have goals and you truly want to take control of your life, the direction its going and make things happen then you need the Simply You Day Planner.
