Christmas is my season! I adore Christmas décor. However, I am a bit particular about how I want things to look. While I want my whole house to look like Christmas threw up all over it, I also want it to look tasteful. I’m not really sure if those two things go together but in my mind they do.
Basically, I want to have “themes” in certain areas of my house. Traditionally I like a red and green theme in the main living area, a blue and silver theme in our bedroom and fun kid colors and ornaments in the playroom.
This year, since we are staying with my parents I am going to try and get away with as much décor as I can even though my mom is a serious minimalist. So, I’m thinking maybe “themes” that coordinate with her current style will be the best way to make this happen.
My approach to the kitchen and dining area is very traditional. I’m going to go with food-themed décor, specifically dried citrus, and cinnamon ornaments! As a bonus, the whole area is going to smell AMAZING and really who could complain about that??
Homemade Cinnamon Ornaments
These are absolutely my favorite. I still have several that I made when I was in elementary school and they still smell heavenly! Quick, easy, adorable and they smell divine. They are the most perfect ornament ever!
Plus my oldest LOVE to cook and help in the kitchen so these are a great Christmas craft for her.
There are several recipes floating around out there but personally, I like the baked ones. Number one, I am super impatient and I really don’t want to wait three days for these ornaments to dry. Number two, I really don’t want to have to use glue!
So with this recipe all you need is:
1 Cup Cinnamon (yeah, its a lot. Check a dollar store or something)
3/4 Cup of Applesauce
Twine, Ribbon, String or whatever you want to use to hang your ornaments.
Mix your cinnamon and applesauce
Roll it out to about 1/4 in thick
Cut out your ornaments, poke a hole to put the twine through
Bake at 200 for 4 hours
Let cool, string and admire
Have you made these before?? I’d LOVE to see your creations! Tag me on instagram and use the hashtag #TGOChristmas
