Self-Care is a trendy topic these days. While I seriously hate the term “self-care” I do see its benefits.
As very busy stay-at-home-moms I also realize that in this season of life we won’t always have time in our days to check self-care off our to-do lists.
That’s okay.
When we do have days to fit some “me” time in, a self-care box is a welcome addition. It’s kind of like meal planning. All the ingredients are already there and you just need to throw it together.
The reason I love having a ready to go box of items that will help me unwind, relax, focus on myself is the same reason I love having a planner.
How to Use a Planner to Conquer Anxiety
You Can Create a Self-Care Box to Busy Your Mind
You know how your mind just takes off on you some days? You start the worrying and the what if’s. You just can’t seem to pull yourself back together even after you have tried everything?
You need a reset.
I used to think that the only way I could get a fresh start was to get a full night of sleep. My brain had time to shut down for a little bit and I could wake up in the morning with a clear head.
And while yes, this totally works, what happens if I need a reset at 10 am? Will I just have to suffer through the whole day until bedtime?
I like to keep items in my self-care box that will totally occupy my mind. Give my brain a chance to focus fully on the task at hand instead of wandering about thinking anxious thoughts.
Whatever activity you can immerse yourself in fully is what you should include. This could be different for everyone. It might be a coloring book, knitting, bubble bath supplies.
Whatever you choose just make sure it fits YOU and your mind. Create a self-care box that is tailored toward you, not just what everyone else says works.
A Self-Care Box Can Give you Healthy Options
When your mind is busy, in overdrive it’s easy to reach for anything close by to try and block out those inner voices. If you are anything like me you probably pick up your phone.
Not the best idea.
Believe it or not, immersing yourself in facebook, Instagram or whatever other social media you are into is NOT going to help your anxiety decrease.
When you create a self-care box that you curate with healthy stimulation for your mind you can avoid the social media suck altogether.
Instead of reaching for your phone and throwing fuel onto your anxiety you can reach for your self-care box and help the flames die down.

A DIY Care Box will Remove All Excuses
How many times have you sat down at the end of a long day and thought “man, I wish I could ____.” What would you fill that blank in with? Take a bubble bath, relax with a cup of fancy hot tea, kick back with a crossword puzzle? Only you remember that you don’t have any bubble bath, bath bombs or anything fun to spice up the bathtub. Nothing other than basic sleepytime tea and certainly no crossword puzzles anywhere to be found.
So you settle, head off to bed and forget about taking the few minutes to do something for yourself.
Stop doing that. Plan ahead, get your box together and take the time when you have it. You deserve it!
Do you see it now? Do you see the importance of a ready-to-go self-care box? Give yourself no excuse to skip pampering yourself. Have all your self-care needs in one convenient place. Make the most of your free time! Go now and create a self-care box for yourself.
I’d love to know that you guys include in your own self-care boxes. Drop a comment below!
